Koorie Heritage Trust: Wominjeka – A New Beginning

The Koorie Heritage Trust have a new home at Federation Square (Levels 1&3, Yarra Building, Federation Square, Corner of Flinders and Swanston Streets, Melbourne Vic 3000) and celebrate their 30th birthday with an exhibition 'Wominjeka – A New Beginning' (19 Sep – 22 Nov 15).

"The exhibition shows the work of five early career artists, exhibited alongside pieces from the Trust's collection that have been the muse for their own artistic expression and stories." The five artists are Aunty Marlene Gilson, Georgia MacGuire, Mitch Mahoney, Josh Muir and Raymond Young. "Working with mentors, these artists have created new works in response to selected items from our collections."

The Trust collection artists are Stephen Glassborow, Wally Cooper, Tommy McRae, Glenda Nicholls, Letty Nicholls, Vena Ingram, Mandy Nicholson, Kelly Koumalatsos, Brian Firebrace, Treahna Hamm, Dorothy Lovett, William Barak, and Darren Pattie-Bux.

Anna Pappas Gallery: Simon MacEwan & Karyn Taylor

Recently I visited Anna Pappas Gallery (2-4 Carlton Street, Prahran, VIC, 3181). There are two wonderful artists showing; Simon MacEwan's 'The Floating World' and Kᾱryn Taylor's 'Immaterial Alchemy', both showing from 3 September 2015 to 3 October 2015.

'The Floating World' has wonderfully beautiful drawings created by a drawing machine which is also part of the exhibtion. 'Immaterial Alchemy' is a show which plays with light. The perspex artworks look like they are iluminated from within with lights, however it is actually the fluorescent coloured perspex inside creating this illusion.

Enjoy the images.

Mary Tonkin: Two spots

Sometimes you see an art exhibition and it just makes your heart sing. Mary Tonkin's show 'Two spots' (4- 23 August 2015) at Australian Galleries is a stunningly beautiful show. These lushly painted landscapes need to be seen in real life as pictures don't do them justice. Enjoy the pictures.

I was contacted by one of my followers to go see her show, the talented Lorraine Heller-Nicholas. She is showing at the gallery Tinning Street in Brunswick with the artist Jessie Scott. The show runs until the 19th October 2014… Yes this Sunday! So go have a look this weekend if you have time.

This is my first time at Tinning Street a little gallery tucked away in a very colourful lane way filled with street art. below are some of the images I took of the laneway and exhibition… enjoy!
